What we have arranged for the client
If a Slovak citizen acquires citizenship of another country after April 1, 2022, they can request to retain their Slovak citizenship. The acquisition of foreign citizenship must be reported to the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, and if the legal conditions are met, Slovak citizenship will remain preserved.
To ensure the document can be used for the intended purpose, we arranged an apostille and subsequently an official translation for the client.
The client must send us the original document, and a scan of their passport is also required.
What does the Apostille clause on a document mean?
Because the document was issued abroad, local authorities need to ensure that the document is authentic. In this case, it means verifying the signature of the person from the institution “His Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.”
It is possible to certify either the original document or a certified copy. If the original is being certified, the notary will add a note on the original stating that it has been directly verified, along with their signature and stamp. The back of the certificate will be affixed with an apostille. The apostille clause does not expire, and a document certified in this manner can be used in the future for other purposes in all countries where an apostille is required.
We always recommend to clients, whenever possible, to apostille the original document directly, as copies, even if apostilled, may not be recognized.
The second option is to apostille a certified copy. However, the client must provide the original document, which will remain untouched. The original will be returned to the client along with the apostilled copy. In this case, we recommend consulting with the authority where the document is to be used in advance to ensure that the apostilled certified copy will be accepted.
